DataGravity, Changing the Status Quo

I have been in the IT industry for over 20 years and one of the greatest pleasures is to watch companies innovate and change the way we work, live and play.  History is full of great success stories, yet they all started with one simple premise that the status quo just wouldn’t do anymore.

Sure there is plenty of room for incremental improvement on existing technologies that make the next evolution better than the previous one, more efficient and cost effective to use.  The storage industry has been a good example of this for the past ten years.  Not since the old frame based architectures were fired in favor of scale out designs has much innovation happened over incremental improvement.  Some will argue that today’s new storage start-ups are innovating on the use of flash, compression, and de-duplication in the storage game.  In reality the cost curve of SSDs and evolution of faster processors has just made it the right time to take this incremental step.  We applaud those who are keeping with the times and embracing flash-accelerated storage, but these really are table stakes that all vendors should be bringing to the table today in any storage solution.

To really affect innovation in the storage space, you need to focus on the real problem the industry is facing today and that is big data.  The amount of data created in the last two years alone out numbers the previous 60 years in time.  Companies are creating data that is full of rich value and storing it faster than they could have ever imagined.  Capitalizing on the value of that data though is out of reach for many companies except those with the deepest pockets and talented people on staff who can go mining to unlock that value in a timely fashion.  This creates a real opportunity and a rich market for innovation and one that is exponentially expanding with every day.

DataGravity is taking on this opportunity in a big way, bringing an innovative solution to the market to turn data into actionable information creating instant business value for those using our solution.  Our world-class team assembled from some of the greatest storage companies like EqualLogic, EMC, NetApp along with experts in business intelligence and analytics from Endeca and Vertica are hard at work changing the status quo again.
